Jawwad Ahmed Farid

Jawwad is a Fellow Society of Actuaries (Chicago), a MBA from Columbia Business School (New York City) and a computer science graduate. During the last ten years, he has worked as a consultant in North America, Pakistan and the United Kingdom with a number of blue chip clients including Hartford Life, Aegon, American General, Goldman Sachs, ING, Manu Life, Safeco, Merrill Lynch, Met Life, Sun America, Nationwide, Phoenix Life, Sumitomo Mitsui Bank, Sun Life of Canada, Pacific Life, AllState, Fidelity Investments, Transamerica, Skandia, GE Financial Assurance, Lincoln National, Ohio National, AXA Equitable and Washington Mutual Bank.

Jawwad’s core areas of expertise include Asset/Risk Management, Investments, Product Development and the Financial Services Back Office. Jawwad blends a rare combination of information systems, industry standards, business and product development skill set side by side with his actuarial expertise. Some of his highlighted assignments include:

  • Comprehensive analysis and extension of risk exposure measurement & management system for the hedge fund margin lending business of a bulge bracket investment bank and brokerage institution in Western Europe.

  • Review of capital adequacy rules and framework for insurance and reinsurance organizations in a financial services free zone in the Middle East.

  • Initial feasibilities for micro pension and low income housing finance products.

  • The launch of 100 plus annuity and pension product across 6 broker dealers, banks and 25 insurance carriers in 10 months in North America.

  • Product design of a Motor Bond product for retail and corporate customers combining elements of comprehensive automobile insurance, sinking funds, savings, risk sharing and claims management in Pakistan.

  • Product development and deployment of an industry wide information exchange, order entry, transaction processing, commission and money settlement platform standard within the financial services sector in North America.

  • Product design of an exchange based supply chain management solution for a leading international Japanese bank and its customers in North America.

  • Valued added actuarial advisory services for employee benefits plans.

Jawwad is based in Karachi, Pakistan, where he runs Alchemy's Enterprise Risk Management, Strategic Product Management and Actuarial practice.


Arif Rasool

Arif has a BA in Mathematics and Economics from University College of North Wales and is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries (England & Wales). He has over fourteen years experience working for Prudential UK in several actuarial capacities. More recently he has been the actuary for American Life Insurance Company (Pakistan) Ltd for over two years. Arif's focus during his career has been:

  • Managing actuarial and operational aspects of Life & Pensions corporate investment products.

  • Actuarial advice to corporate clients (pension scheme trustees and sponsors) on the valuation of ongoing occupational defined benefit pension scheme assets and liabilities.

  • Solvency valuations and financial management of occupational defined benefit schemes that are closing and/or winding up.

  • Insurance company actuarial valuations and reporting requirements for twenty five international operations.


Mujtaba Iqbal

Mujtaba is a CFA level III candidate and finance and accounting major from Drexel University. He has worked as a senior consulting professional for the last 12 years, primarily with KMHR a member firm representing Deloitte & Touche in Pakistan. Some of Mujtaba’s recent engagements include:

  • Design and rollout strategy for a small and medium enterprises financing program for a AAA rated multinational financial institution.

  • Identification of a Risk Management Strengthening framework for a multinational bank in the Middle East.

  • Country consultant for UK Government’s Department for International Development (DFID) Financial Deepening Challenge Fund (FDCF) responsible for deal flow, marketing, application assistance, project appraisal, evaluation and monitoring.

  • Domestic Project Manager for a multiyear Technical Assistance capacity building program funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) covering custom valuations, input output coefficient organization, antidumping, intellectual property rights and pre- shipment financing needs.

  • Buy side due diligence, valuations, project appraisals and financial advisory.


Fawzia Salahuddin

Fawzia holds a masters & Bachelors in Computer Science from FAST-ICS (formerly BCCI-FAST). Over the last 10 years she has worked as a project manager and team-lead in multinational firms and software houses across Pakistan and North America, working with clients including State Bank of Pakistan, Karachi Stock Exchange, Muslim Commercial Bank, Bank of Ceylon, International Brands, Pakistan Railways, Coco Commerce, Manufacturer’s Bank and others. Her assignments haved included:

  • Product design of an exchange based supply chain management solution for a leading international Japanese bank and its customers in North America.
  • Remote project management of offshore and onsite teams.
  • Setup and management of quality assurance and customer support centers.
  • Numerous retail banking, cash balancing and reconciliation project with banking customers in Pakistan.

The diverse nature of the projects she has worked on has provided her exposure in a variety of domains, spanning from 24x7 real time solutions to Supply Chain Management, Banking Solutions to Distributions. Fawzia is an exceptional communicator, analyst and problem solver is based in Karachi and run the technology practice at Alchemy Associates.


Rizwan Ahmed Farid

Rizwan is one of the most well respected marketing professional in the life insurance industry in Pakistan and the ex-Principal of State Life Insurance Training Academy. Rizwan has over 40 years experience of serving private, multinational and public sectors in industrial and financial services marketing, recruitment, selection, training and development of human resource. Rizwan is based in Karachi, Pakistan and manages Alchemy’s human capital, financial services marketing and field development strategies practice.
